Photoautotrophic cultivation of microalgae

We are Bulgarian biotechnology company-ALGOMEDA Ltd- working in the area of microalgae cultivation. This branch of biotechnology is too attractive because these are the most efficient photoautotrophic organisms that are not very exacting about their life conditions. Also they are abundant source of biologically active substances which are useful in medicine, cosmetics, food production-flavours, food colours, natural preservatives, density increasing substances, sourse of vitamins and minerals with very good nutrition value in general.

We are researching new cultivation methods of microalgae using the natural spring (mineral) waters around Sofia. The cultivated specieses are Scenedesmus acutus and Porphyridium cruentum. Scenedesmus is green freshwater microalga (coenobium), (Chlorophyta, Chlorococcales) and contains different kinds of biologically active substances. It is rich in antioxydants- vit C, Vit A, carotenoids, ubiquinones, different minerals etc . Full complex of bioactive substances increases natural skin protection against damages, caused by UV-rays, environmental pollution and stress and can be used as remedy for injuries, dermatites, sun burns and other skin problems...

Porphyridium is red marine microalga (Rhodophyta, Porphyridiales) which is significant source of polysaccharides for cosmetic procedures. This kind of substances defends all skin types from dehydratation. It is also useful in recovering the skin from stressful conditions. Also polysaccharides from red microalgae have antiviral (Herpes virus), antimicrobial proparties and antiadhesive activity on attachment of red sore disease-associated bacteria and Helicobacter pylori...

Pollyunsaturated fatty acids from red microalgae are precursors of hormones with a preventive role for cardio-vascular diseases and also they show antitumor and antiflammatory effects...
